OUR STYLE OF YOGA

Style Of YogaThe style of Yoga that we practice and teach at Yoga Doctors is a modern adaptation of the classical form known as Vinyasa Krama.  Brought back into prominence by the legendary 20th century Yoga master and healer, Sri T. Krishnamacharya (teacher of B.K.S. Iyengar, Patthaboi Jois, T.K.V. Desikachar, Indra Devi and others) Vinyasa Krama is known as “the art of enlightened transition.”  The practice harnesses the wisdom and insights of many forms of Yoga and is designed to assist the practitioner in developing self-mastery through enhanced physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual awareness.

Style Of YogaClassically, vinyasa is the natural artistic fluidity of breath synchronized movements; krama is a creative method or order of practice that awakens the body’s innate intelligence.  Our method of therapeutic Vinyasa Krama at Yoga Doctors links these qualities together through a synthesis of the most structurally and energetically intuitive elements found in classical and modern Yoga, Thai massage, Qi Gong, Chiropractic mobilizations, Chinese Meridian theory, Western biomechanics, sports medicine, myofascial release bodywork and modern movement science.  The resulting organic system that we have created adapts to an individual’s specific needs, capabilities, goals and intentions to support the practitioner in the mindful integration of his/her breath, movements and own self-reliance.

At Yoga Doctors, we like to think of the body as an orchestra, the various parts as the instruments and the brain and the heart as the conductors.  Refining the quality within each movement in a person’s practice, our method encourages the practitioner toward his/her unrealized abilities similar to how notes harmonize and encourage other notes in a symphony.  In this way, The Yoga Doctors Method of Therapeutic Vinyasa Krama re-establishes a relationship between the body, the person and the soul in a kind and gentle process, achieving deep transformation and rediscovered potential without force or injury.
